As most of our readers will be aware, the vision of RCDA is to implement the aims of the Rockcorry Vision Plan 2030. A vision without a plan is just a dream. Thankfully we do have the plan – a comprehensive strategic roadmap outlining the future for our community which focuses on sustainable development, boosting local infrastructural facilities and fostering a vibrant interconnected community. The vision plan can be viewed here. But a plan is futile without action. Meaningful action requires funding support. Substantial amounts of outside funding from various sources come on stream from time to time. One of the primary purposes of RCDA is to be in a position to respond to these funding calls whenever they arise. The majority of funding applications require the beneficiary group to put up ‘match funding’. This can vary depending on the funder but typically will be at a ratio of 90%/10%. So, for example, where the total cost of a local project is €100,000, the funder will provide €90,000 while the local community ‘match funding’ figure will be just €10,000. By any measure, this is very generous – for every €10 raised locally we will, if an application is successful, receive €90! We intend to make every effort to take full advantage of all funding calls from whatever source that are relevant to our workplan. We have already, (in December 2024), made an application for funding to Monaghan County Council, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), with a view to commencing work on the development of a network of Looped Walkways around the village as outlined in ‘Vision Plan’. We need to ensure that, if our application is successful, we have sufficient match funding in order to draw down the grant awarded.
