The AGM of Rockcorry Tidy Towns Committee was held last Thursday in Rockcorry National School. Facilitated by the Rockcorry Community Development Association (RCDA), following a report from the outgoing committee, the well-attended meeting proceeded to appoint the following officers for the new in-coming committee:
Chair: Ross McDonald;
Secretary: Joan McKay;
Treasurer: Sheila Murray;
PRO: Carol Gilliland;
Liaison Officer: Aoife Keogh;
Biodiversity and Sustainability Officer: Brian McDonald.
It was encouraging to witness the enthusiasm which all in attendance displayed and it was especially gratifying to see new residents present. This all augurs well for the future as we strive to realise the aims of Rockcorry Tidy Towns.
The key aims are:
to improve the quality of life for the residents of the village;
to make the village more attractive and inviting for visitors;
to maintain the heritage, character and distinctiveness of the village;
to help to develop the area for future generations;
to involve all of the community in the development of the village;
to improve the position of the village in the Tidy Towns competition.
Co-ordinators have been identified for all areas of the village, these to become members of the new committee. The meeting concluded with a discussion around priority issues that will be addressed in the immediate future.
Several projects are planned, including the upcoming planting of spring bulbs.
The new committee is wished every success in all their endeavours over the coming year. We encourage more community members to volunteer in the coming weeks and months as we work together to achieve our objectives. New recruits, especially from the younger population, are very welcome. Please contact any of the officers above to register your interest. ‘Ni neart a cur le cheile! There is no strength without unity!’ We are always stronger when we stand together.
